What an asshole that scarface guy is. Burning down the crops just to get Roberto to sell his son off. >_>

The foreshadowing is so damn obvious, but I love it. It comes with that classic 90's anime style.
I wish the villain had more depth to his nature though. Coming from JJBA: DiU and witnessing the character of antagonist Yoshikage Kira unravel, I have higher expectations for anime villains now. Despite that, I really enjoyed this episode. Romeo is a cute little boy and 11 is such a tender age. I can remember when I was 11 years old and the innocence that came with it. I'm really worried about what's going to happen to him, and like the members of his town, I too am praying for the best.

The art is not really my cup of tea, but it works I guess, the charm of this show to which the art surely contributes something makes up for it.

Start was ok-good and I'm curious to see how the story will unfold.

Those two guys at the tavern and their overly expositive dialogue really didn't help Roberto's situation.

I've been interested in this one for a long time but never got around to it,I really should watch more of the WMT anime.

The show is beautifully animated, some shots I just want to pause and admire the detail in them.

That the hell is this story? No parent with a right mind would let their child to be sold even for their own sake. Who would trust a complete stranger who is interested in children? He could have sold him to be raped for all we know.

Unfortunately, selling children was common in Europe back then. Many families under poverty were forced to sell their kids and then those kids were usually hired to do menial jobs in faraway places. Many of them didn't survive, either from poor health or accidents from work. It's sad, really.

I really dig these 90s vibes. Reminds me of the 90s Hunter x Hunter quite a bit. Both were animated by Nippon so it makes since.

Right? Let’s tell the “god of death” who just offered to buy Roberto’s son from him about his last crop field. Smfh.

Great introduction to the world, can't wait to see out how this will negatively impact the family.

And that man in the bar really had to specify the one field, huh.

Very different presentation from the '70s TMS anime I've watched before (Takarajima, Versailles no Bara, Ie Naki Ko). Not sure about it yet, but I'll probably have a good opinion of it once things pick up. This is the first historical anime from Nippon Animation I'll be watching, not including Arabian Nights: Sindbad no Bouken. (Which I dropped due to the direly bad subtitles it had)
